Nuri Sahin says that he is thankful he no longer has to work under Brendan Rodgers.

Former Liverpool loanee Nuri Sahin has criticised manager Brendan Rodgers for playing him out of position.

The Turkish international said that he questioned the Reds boss over his decision to play him behind the strikers, but received no explanation for the tactic.

"Brendan Rodgers wanted me to play as a 10. But I do not play behind the forwards," he told Spanish newspaper AS.

"I spoke with him and asked him why I was playing there. It is not my real position. The boss could not answer me... still, I am not sorry about it."

Sahin, whose parent club Real Madrid have now loaned him out to Borussia Dortmund, went on to say that he does not regret his Anfield stint, but is thankful he no longer works under Rodgers.

"To play in the red jersey and be in Anfield is something marvellous," he added. "Maybe if I had not gone there I would not have been able to return to Borussia Dortmund. For that, I am happy.

"But I have left Brendan Rodgers, thanks be to God."

Sahin joined Liverpool on a season-long loan from Real last summer, making only 12 appearances before the deal was terminated.
