Spearing: Size doesn't matter

Jay Spearing admits that he has no concerns about his height in comparison to other Premier League midfielders.

Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing has said that his short stature in comparison to the majority of Premier League players does not concern him.

Spearing, at five feet and six inches tall, is several inches shorter than the prototypical defensive midfielder. However, the 23-year-old insists that he has never been afraid of the physicality of the English league. Instead, it is something that he embraces.

"People have talked about the size difference in the middle of the park for a long time," he told Liverpool's website.

"But I've never been scared to get into a tussle. I always love a tackle. It's never been an issue for me, I've never really thought about it. I think about the football side, and hopefully I'm proving to people that the football side is there."

Meanwhile, Spearing could be in line for a start this afternoon when Liverpool take on Manchester United.
