How Liverpool could line up against Norwich City

Sports Mole looks at how Liverpool could line up for Saturday's Premier League trip to basement club Norwich City as Sadio Mane closes in on a return.

Liverpool return to Premier League action after the winter break with a trip to face bottom-of-the-table Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp's champions-elect have the chance to extend what is already a record 22-point lead even further after closest challengers Manchester City saw their match against West Ham United postponed last weekend.

Liverpool have taken 100 points from the last 102 on offer in the top flight, including 73 from 75 in a 2019-20 campaign which began with a 4-1 triumph over Norwich.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the Reds could line up for their trip to Norfolk.

The mid-season break has allowed a few Liverpool players to recover from injuries - most notably Sadio Mane after he missed the last four games with a hamstring problem.

The Senegalese winger is now back in training and will be in contention for Saturday's match, although Klopp is unlikely to take any unnecessary risks with a Champions League trip to Atletico Madrid coming up on Tuesday night.

James Milner has also returned to training during the break and could play some part this weekend, while Shaqiri is closing in on a comeback from his latest injury problem as well, although this match will come too soon for him.

A two-week gap between games for the senior players means that there is little need for Klopp to rest anyone ahead of the Champions League last 16 first leg, and so it is likely to be a full strength XI at Carrow Road.

Whether that includes Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remains to be seen, with the midfielder having scored in his last two matches and enjoyed a prolonged spell in the starting lineup of late.

The return to fitness of Fabinho and fine form of Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum has seen competition for midfield places intensify, though, leaving Klopp with a decision to make this weekend.

The back five appears to be settled following a run of just one goal conceded in their last 10 Premier League games, while Mane's fitness is the only minor question mark hanging over the front three.
