Jurgen Klopp: 'Lazar Markovic is free to leave Liverpool'

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp makes Serbian winger Lazar Markovic available for transfer, admitting that he wanted to offload him permanently last summer.

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Lazar Markovic is not in his Liverpool plans for the new season, offering the winger a chance to begin discussions with any interested clubs.

Markovic, who cost £20m to sign from Benfica in 2014, was left out of the Reds' squad for their recent pre-season tour of the Far East.

The Serbia international was offloaded on loan to Sporting Lisbon and Hull City during the 2016-17 campaign, with Klopp admitting that it was his intention to sell the player permanently last summer.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, he said: "With Lazar, it's no secret that if he finds a club then we will negotiate. It was like this last year too.

"He's a really good player. I like him as a person. He's now fit and another one who is in the best shape since I've known him. Before he had problems with his groin but now he's good. There will be a club out there who needs him."

Markovic scored twice in 14 appearances for Hull in the second half of last season, but injury forced him to sit out the final fortnight.
