Patrick Vieira: 'Steven Gerrard will be focused'

Patrick Vieira insists that Steven Gerrard will be fully focused on the World Cup for England after narrowly missing out on the Premier League title with Liverpool.

Patrick Vieira has expressed his belief that England captain Steven Gerrard will have overcome the disappointment of missing out on the Premier League title in time for the start of the World Cup.

Liverpool narrowly missed out on the top-flight crown by two points to Manchester City as they slipped up twice in the last few weeks of the season.

However, Vieira feels that Gerrard will be focused and in excellent form for the tournament in Brazil.

He told reporters: "I think that he will have been disappointed, but he'll only have been disappointed for one week.

"When the competition starts he'll get focused and try to be successful with the national team. I think he's one of the players who'll get to the World Cup in good form because he's been playing fantastically well.

"He didn't play Champions League football this year, so physically he'll be fresher."

England face Italy in their World Cup opener next week.
