Dagenham & Redbridge's woes continue

A goal in either half from Luke Guttridge and Alex Lawless secures Luton Town a 2-0 victory away at struggling Dagenham & Redbridge.

Dagenham & Redbridge's poor start to the season continued this afternoon at home to Luton Town, who ran out 2-0 winners at Victoria Road.

It is a result that has left Wayne Burnett's side bottom of the League Two table, with just one victory to show from their opening 16 fixtures.

The visitors, who started the game in 19th position, began the encounter brightly, with three chances being created for Jack Marriott. On each occasion, though, the Luton striker was denied by Liam O'Brien in the Dagenham goal.

However, with 41 minutes on the clock Luke Guttridge succeeded where Marriott had previously failed. Josh McQuoid flicked the ball on for the midfielder, who was able to poke in his second goal of the season from close range.

The trailing Daggers started the second half in the ascendancy, yet it was Luton that doubled their advantage in the 65th minute. Guttridge pounced on an error from O'Brien and instead of going for goal again, he squared a pass for Alex Lawless to roll the ball into the net.

Dagenham found goalscoring openings difficult to carve out as the match wore on, with their best falling to Jamie Cureton four minutes from time. But, the experienced frontman was unable to test Mark Tyler with his effort, which flew over.

The result has ended a sequence of five outings without a victory for the travelling Hatters.
