Juventus edge past Lyon

Juventus beat Lyon 1-0 at the Stade de Gerland courtesy of Leonardo Bonucci's late winner.

Leonardo Bonucci scored a late goal to give Juventus a first-leg victory against Lyon at the Stade de Gerland.

Carlos Tevez came close to opening the scoring for Juventus with just six minutes on the clock, but he was unable to find the target with his header from close range.

Lyon almost made the breakthrough themselves shortly after through Steed Malbranque, whose strike was only kept out by a fine Gianluigi Buffon save to ensure that the scores remained level.

One minute later Jimmy Briand thought he had found the opener, finding the space to get a shot away inside the area, but he did not strike his effort cleanly enough to find the target.

Anthony Lopes was called into action on the half-hour mark to deny Tevez, with the Argentine picking up a lofted cross into the box before firing away a shot.

After a second half of few chances for either side, the game looked to be edging for a draw, though Bonucci found the back of the net with a fine finish to give the Old Lady a precious away goal after 85 minutes.
