Nabil Fekir's solitary strike gives Lyon narrow win against Nantes

Lyon secure a narrow 1-0 win against Nantes in Sunday afternoon's Ligue 1 clash at the Stade de Gerland, thanks to Nabil Fekir's second-half strike.

Lyon have gone back to the top of Ligue 1 courtesy of a narrow 1-0 win against Nantes in this afternoon's clash at the Stade de Gerland.

The hosts were first to threaten as Nabil Fekir latched on to Mouhamadou Dabo's cross in the fifth minute to fire just over the bar.

Corentin Tolisso then tried his luck from outside the box on the quarter-hour mark, but the audacious effort flew well wide of the target.

Nantes enjoyed a good spell midway through the first half when Serge Gakpe, Jordan Veretout and Issa Cissokho all came close for the visitors, but Lyon countered when Fekir's free kick struck the post just before the break.

Hubert Fournier's charges came out strongly after the restart, with Alexandre Lacazette threatening on a number of occasions.

Lyon finally broke the deadlock in the 67th minute when Fekir surged into the opposition box before slotting the ball down the middle into the net.

Nantes couldn't find a way back into the game after conceding, barely threatening the hosts' goal in the latter stages, and in injury time, the Canaries conceded a penalty when Remy Riou brought Fekir down in the box.

Maxime Gonalons missed from the spot, but the whistle nevertheless blew moments later to give Lyon three points that see them overtake Paris Saint-Germain at the summit.
