Half-Time Report: Fabio Borini goal gives Sunderland lead

Half time in the Capital One Cup final sees Sunderland hold a 1-0 lead over Manchester City thanks to an early goal from Fabio Borini.

Half time at Wembley in the Capital One Cup final sees Sunderland hold a 1-0 lead over Manchester City.

The game started at a ferocious pace, with Sunderland closing down City in the midfield area at every opportunity.

A couple of corners on nine minutes from David Silva caused confusion in the Black Cats' area, but the defence eventually cleared.

Sunderland had the ball in the net when Ki Sung-Yueng converted Fabio Borini's low cross at the back post, though the midfielder was clearly offside and saw the goal ruled out.

Soon after, Sunderland did take the lead through Borini, who latched on to Sebastian Larsson's ball, beat Vincent Kompany with pace and finished expertly to make it 1-0.

Fernandinho's poor clearance fell to Borini on the edge of the box after 15 minutes, though the Italian's effort was headed over the bar by Edin Dzeko.

Sergio Aguero created a chance on 28 minutes when he crossed to Samir Nasri, though the Frenchman's effort was easily collected by Vito Mannone.

Borini had a huge chance to double Sunderland's lead on 39 minutes, but he hesistated when in on goal, allowing Kompany to recover and clear the ball with a fine challenge.
