Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho not thinking about retirement

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho suggests that he has not pencilled in a retirement date for the future.

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has suggested that he intends to continue playing professional football for another few years.

After the summer arrival of Rodri, it remains unclear whether City will extend the Brazilian's contract past the end of this season.

However, despite the fact that he will turn 35 years of age in May, the defensive-minded veteran has hinted that he has no plans to retire anytime soon.

Fernandinho is quoted by the Manchester Evening News as saying: "I always say I'll play until my mind will allow me to play.

"When I feel happy and motivated to play every day this is important. To train happy and fresh everyday so until I don't feel like this, I will play, but I don't want to say until 37, 38, 40; we shall see."

Fernandinho has deputised in the centre of defence this season, making a total of nine appearances in all competitions.
