Joleon Lescott says that Manchester City's players never gave up hope of claiming the Premier League title, despite falling eight points behind Manchester United last month.

Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott has maintained that he and his teammates never gave up hope of lifting the Premier League trophy, despite falling eight points behind Manchester United one month ago today.

Roberto Mancini's men lost 1-0 at Arsenal on April 8 to leave United eight points ahead with only six games remaining.

Since then, the Citizens have claimed maximum points from their five games, including a 1-0 win over the Red Devils, while United have also lost at Wigan Athletic and been held at home by Everton.

"It would have been crazy to have given it all up after the Arsenal game," explained 29-year-old Lescott.

"It was more a case of hope back then because it was out of our hands, but there was never any chance of us giving up. That would have been criminal.

"The lads I play with have a never-say-die attitude and weren't going to give up when we're so close to something like this."

Table-toppers City will be crowned Premier League champions if they beat Queens Park Rangers on Sunday.
