Roberto Mancini: 'Money did not lure me to Galatasaray'

Roberto Mancini insists that the promise of great wealth did not weigh heavily in his decision to take the reins at Galatasaray.

Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has laughed off suggestions that financial gain was the primary motive behind his move to Galatasaray.

The Italian secured his first job in management since being sacked by City in the summer by replacing Fatih Terim as coach of the Turkish champions at the end of September

However, while the 48-year-old admits that the figures involved were important, Mancini insists that Gala's prestige, coupled with their participation in the Champions League were his main motivation in accepting the role in the Turkish capital.

He told Gazzetta dello Sport: "In Italy, we always think about money. It's clear that contracts are part of our profession, and they have importance, but I accepted their proposal because Galatasaray are taking part in the Champions League and they have a relevant history.

"I'm fascinated by the idea of facing a new experience in a country that is a bridge between Europe and Asia."

The former Inter coach guided the club to a 2-2 draw with Juventus in his bow as Galatasaray boss, before slumping to defeat to Akhisar Belediye in his first domestic fixture.
