Manuel Pellegrini: 'Manchester City did well to recover from Juventus defeat'

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes that his side did well to recover from their 1-0 defeat by Juventus to beat Southampton this afternoon.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has suggested that his side did well to recover from their 1-0 Champions League defeat by Juventus to beat Southampton this afternoon.

Pellegrini's side moved to the top of the Premier League table with a 3-1 victory over the South Coast outfit - thanks to goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Fabian Delph and Aleksandar Kolarov - and the Chilean admits that he was pleased with his team's display.

"It was a very important reaction," Pellegrini told reporters after the game. "I'm very happy about the performance.

"It was a very difficult game and with only 72 hours to recover [from the Juventus game] but it was a strong reaction from the players."

City will take on Championship outfit Hull City in the League Cup on Tuesday evening, and Pellegrini insists that his side will not take Steve Bruce's side lightly.

"It's important to be focused [against Hull] and for me it's important to continue in all competitions," Pellegrini added.

The Citizens will take on Stoke City in their next Premier League fixture on December 5.
