Barcelona reportedly prepare to offer Sergi Roberto a new two-year contract as they look to avoid the versatile Spaniard leaving for nothing in 2022.

Barcelona are reportedly looking to tie Sergi Roberto down to a new two-year contract.

The versatile Spaniard was bedevilled by injuries during the 2020-21 campaign, and he only made 20 appearances across all competitions during a disrupted season.

The arrival of Sergino Dest also restricted Roberto's opportunities on the right-hand side, and with his current deal set to expire next year, he has been linked with a move elsewhere.

However, Marca reports that Barca want to tie Roberto down until the end of the 2023-24 season, although his situation with regards to game time is unlikely to change significantly.

The report adds that Barca are hoping to protect his value and want to avoid the 29-year-old leaving for nothing in 2022, but reports of interest from Manchester City were untrue.

Roberto has now spent 15 years in Catalonia since joining the Blaugrana's academy in 2006, and he has won six La Liga titles and two Champions League crowns with Barcelona.
