Manchester United will again be without the services of Edinson Cavani for Wednesday's Champions League last-16 first leg against Atletico Madrid.

The Uruguay international has missed his side's last three Premier League matches through injury but had been tipped to make his return at Wanda Metropolitano this week.

Cavani is not yet ready to return to action, though, with interim head coach Ralf Rangnick revealing that the experienced striker still "has problems with his groin".

"Edi will not make the trip. He didn't train and hasn't been training for a couple of weeks. He has problems with his groin and, as long as he doesn't feel ready to fully sprint, it doesn't make sense to train him," Rangnick told reporters during his pre-match press conference.

The 35-year-old, who is expected to leave the Red Devils on a free transfer this summer, has scored twice and registered one assist in 15 appearances at club level during the 2021-22 campaign.

Cavani's last outing for the 20-time English champions came against Burnley in the Premier League on February 8, playing 68 minutes of the 1-1 draw at Turf Moor.
