Ben Amos eyes Man Utd's number one jersey

Ben Amos says that he wants to be Manchester United's number one goalkeeper within the next five years.

Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Amos has said that he has set his sights on becoming Sir Alex Ferguson's first choice within the next five years.

Injuries to David de Gea and Anders Lindegaard gave the 21-year-old his league debut against Stoke at the end of January.

The Macclesfield-born shot-stopper marked his debut with an assured performance and clean sheet in a routine 2-0 win. After experiencing his first league encounter at Old Trafford, Amos is determined to make a serious claim for the number one jersey in the next few seasons.

When asked where he saw himself in five years' time, he told the club's official website: "I hope I'm No.1 here at United, that's my aim. I hope to be playing week in, week out. I'll be 26 then and I guess I'll be in my prime.

"It's what I've always wanted to do. When people started to ask me what I wanted to do as a job, it was to play for United.

"I saw Peter Schmeichel playing and I had my mind set on it from then. I think I've worked too hard not to be patient and obviously you don't want to give up on your dream."

Amos joined Manchester United in 2001, having been released by Crewe Alexandra.
