Sir Alex Ferguson warns David de Gea that he will be in for an "eye-opener" when Manchester United travel to Stoke this weekend.

Sir Alex Ferguson has warned Manchester United keeper David de Gea that he will be in for an "eye-opener" at the Britannia Stadium this weekend.

The Scot admitted that the Spaniard has been working on his positioning ahead of his side's trip to the home of the Potters, where he will likely face an aerial battle with Stoke's physical forwards.

"Playing at Stoke is an eye-opener for any goalkeeper," he said. "I remember with Edwin van der Sar we used to discuss what his position would be in terms of the long throw-ins and where he was most comfortable to deal with the situation, and I think we got it right.

"We'll do the same with David [on Saturday]. All the work this week has been on his positioning, where he should be. It's similar to what Edwin did.

"We know you have to perform there. Last season we scored with about four minutes to go, but we've never won easily there, have we?"

The Potters remain unbeaten at home this season, after suffering their first loss in all competitions against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last weekend.
