Thierry Henry critical of Louis van Gaal over Anthony Martial's playing positon

Thierry Henry hits out at Louis van Gaal for playing Anthony Martial on Manchester United's wing.

Thierry Henry has questioned Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal's decision to play Anthony Martial on the right wing.

Following his summer arrival from Monaco, the 20-year-old made an initial impression when he scored four goals in his first four outings for the club as a centre-forward.

However, since then, the France international has often been deployed out wide, where he has struggled to make as much of an impact.

His latest appearance as a wideman came during the weekend's 2-1 loss at home to Norwich City and speaking on Sky Sports News about the situation, Henry said: "What is he doing there? I actually do not know what he is doing there.

"He should be in the penalty area, having a one versus one, scoring and celebrating. Is it fear? Is it because they have been brainwashed a bit too much? I just don't get it.

"They wanted a guy who scored goals. They wanted a guy to run in behind fast. He came in and did that. Suddenly now he finds himself out there, almost not touching the ball. I think if I had a player like that, he would be my number nine and the rest are around him."

In total, Martial has found the net on seven occasions in a United shirt.
