Jose Mourinho happy with "majority" of Manchester United squad

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho hints at disharmony in his squad, but praises the "fantastic spirit" from the majority.

Jose Mourinho has made a point of emphasising that he his happy with the attitude shown by the "majority" of his Manchester United squad.

The Red Devils boss has been boosted by the news that Phil Jones, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford, who all featured in the World Cup, will return to training ahead of schedule.

In what has been a turbulent pre-season trip to the United States, however, Mourinho has already publicly criticised a couple of his players - Anthony Martial for failing to return to training following the birth of his child, and Antonio Valencia for appearing out of shape.

Speaking after United's 2-1 win against Real Madrid in the early hours of Wednesday morning, the Portuguese suggested that certain members of his squad are not giving their all.

"In a few days, we go to Munich and in 11 days, we start the Premier League and these are the players that we have, plus [Victor] Lindelof, that started training two days ago," he told reporters.

"Plus Marcus Rashford, [Phil] Jones and [Romelu] Lukaku because they gave to the group and to the team three days of their holiday, so they're coming back three days early to try and be available for the team.

"With the fantastic spirit we have in the majority of the players, I repeat in the majority of the players we have a fantastic spirit. we go with everything we have into the Premier League."

United begin their Premier League campaign with a home match against Leicester City, followed by a trip to Brighton & Hove Albion nine days later.
