Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has explained why he stared at Ben Foster after he scored his penalty against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

Rooney appeared to focus intently on the Baggies goalkeeper after he had dispatched his spot kick to score his second goal in United's 2-0 win.

"I looked at ben foster after pen because i took a lot of pens against him in training and before i took penalty he tried to put me off," he tweeted. "Ben foster is a good friend of mine. Top lad."

Foster spent five years at Old Trafford before a move to Birmingham City in 2010.
