Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney admits that playing Liverpool is one of the "toughest" games to win.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes that the head to head with Liverpool this weekend is a "massive" game in the Premier League.

The two sides, who are the most successful clubs in England, have been fierce rivals for years but the 25-year-old will go into the clash trying to avenge the Reds' domination of his hometown club Everton when he was a youngster.

"My memories as a fan of [the Merseyside] derbies are not great, to be honest – we didn't win many," said Rooney.

"I used to love the games. Before the games I used to feel sick I was so nervous. It was a horrible feeling.

"It's a big day for United with the rivalry with Liverpool, but for me it's a massive game."

The England international concedes that it will be a tough fixture as the Merseyside club attempt to regain a Champions League spot this season.

"Obviously with them not qualifying for the Champions League last season, they will be desperate to get back into that," he added.

"Liverpool is always for me the toughest place to go and win a game. They'll be pushing to get into the top four and with the signings they've got, they're capable of doing that."

The two sides face off at Anfield this Saturday.
