Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has said that his side had to dig in as they came back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 with Chelsea.

Two penalties from Rooney and Javier Hernandez's header earned United an improbable point after being 3-0 down early in the second half.

"We had to dig in, and if we got one goal back with some time left then we had a chance," he told Sky Sports News.

"We've showed that a lot of teams would find it easy to put their heads down, but we worked hard.

"Of course it's two points lost, we understand that. A lot of the [Manchester] City players at home watching us fight back and the heart in the team - they know it's going to be a long fight to the end."

United are now two points behind Premier League leaders City.
