Louis van Gaal 'to withdraw Manchester United physios from England roles'

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal reportedly wants backroom staff members Tony Strudwick and Rod Thornley to give up their part-time roles with England.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal reportedly intends to remove two members of his backroom staff Tony Strudwick and Rod Thornley from their roles within the England setup.

The pair, who were already working with the Premier League club prior to Van Gaal's arrival in May, have part-time roles with the national squad.

According to The Guardian, Van Gaal has informed the Football Association that he wants fitness coach Strudwick and masseur Thornley to remain at Carrington full-time.

It is believed that the duo will join England manager Roy Hodgson's backroom setup for next week's Euro 2016 qualifiers against San Marino and Estonia, but should Van Gaal get his way, the pair will not return to the Three Lions fold.

United have been hampered with injuries this season, with Michael Carrick, Jonny Evans, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Ashley Young, Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera all being struck by problems.
