Ed Woodward: 'Louis van Gaal will bring attacking football to Manchester United'

Ed Woodward believes that Louis van Gaal will instil "energy" and a brand of "incredible, attacking football" at Manchester United.

Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has said that Louis van Gaal will bring "energy and attacking football" back to the club.

United were criticised for their predictable build-up play on numerous occasions last season under David Moyes, but Woodward is confident that fans will see a revitalised Red Devils side under the leadership of the Dutchman.

"He's got incredible energy and very importantly he likes attacking football," Woodward told MUTV.

"If you remember the Barcelona team [Van Gaal managed] in the late '90s, who played incredible, attacking football, and those games we had against them in '98-99, that's the kind of football Manchester United fans love. It's part of our DNA.

"The second part of what he likes is giving youth a chance. He's got a track record littered with giving young players a break in the first team, who have gone on to be stars. Clearly that's Manchester United's philosophy and we want him to continue with that."

Van Gaal's first competitive game in charge of Manchester United will be their 2014-15 Premier League opener against Swansea City at 12.45pm on August 16.
