Premier League Team of the Week - Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford

Sports Mole selects its Premier League team of the week for gameweek 33, including Manchester United trio Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.

Manchester City fell to their ninth Premier League defeat of the season in gameweek 33 of the 2019-20 campaign, with Southampton picking up a rare home win to leave the former champions once again 23 points adrift of successors Liverpool.

The Reds picked up their first win since being crowned champions by beating Aston Villa, while behind them the top-four battle saw Leicester City, Chelsea and Manchester United all win.

Wolverhampton Wanderers lost ground with defeat at home to Arsenal, though, while Sheffield United also dropped points at Burnley.

At the bottom of the table Brighton & Hove Albion moved to the brink of safety with victory at Norwich City, whose manager Daniel Farke accepted relegation with his side still seven points from safety with five games remaining.

Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Watford all lost again as well, allowing West Ham United to nudge themselves further away from danger courtesy of their entertaining draw at Newcastle United.

There was only one choice for the gloves in this team, with Southampton's Alex McCarthy starring in their shock victory over Man City with six saves to keep an at-times rampant City attack at bay.

Jack Stephens was equally important to that rearguard action as he threw himself in front of everything, while Kyle Walker-Peters completes the Saints trio at right wing-back having shone both in defence and whenever Southampton were able to get forward.

Two centre-backs from the same match make up the back three, with James Tarkowski and John Egan both getting on the scoresheet in the 1-1 draw between Burnley and Sheffield United.

Jan Bednarek and Shkodran Mustafi deserve honourable mentions, but the back five is completed by Chelsea's Cesar Azpilicueta, who once again showcased his versatility by impressing at left-back against Watford.

Azpilicueta added another assist to his tally in that match, setting up Ross Barkley's goal as the Chelsea midfielder scored in the Premier League for the first time since 2018, having himself already registered an assist earlier in the game.

West Ham pair Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek were both in contention for midfield spots, but Bruno Fernandes was once again a shoo-in having scored one and created two more in United's 5-2 victory over Bournemouth, continuing his remarkable start to life at the club.

Fernandes was by no means the only player to steal the show in that game, though, and while Marcus Rashford was also on the scoresheet it was Mason Greenwood's latest appearance which will have excited fans the most.

The youngster was on the scoresheet again with a fine brace, taking him up to eight for the season in the league - Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and Wayne Rooney are the only players aged 18 or younger to have scored more in the single campaign.

The most notable landmark of the weekend came for Jamie Vardy as he finally ended his wait to join the Premier League 100 club, going on to add a second in the win over Crystal Palace.
