Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim makes a worrying admission over the club's budget for the January transfer window.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has admitted that the club are not currently in a position to make January signings.

United have experienced their worst month in 94 years after they suffered their sixth competitive defeat in December in Monday's home meeting with Newcastle United.

Alexander Isak and Joelinton scored first-half goals to condemn Man United to a third consecutive Premier League defeat without scoring.

Having mustered just 22 points from 19 matches, the Red Devils will head into the new year in 14th place in the Premier League table.

Man United's current crop of players have seemingly struggled to adapt to Amorim's preferred 3-4-3 system, which he implemented so successfully during his time at Sporting Lisbon.

Amorim makes January transfer admission

In an ideal world, Amorim would use the upcoming transfer window as an opportunity to recruit players that suit his formation and style of play.

However, the Man United head coach has admitted that the club are not currently in a position to strengthen the squad in the January transfer window.

"We don't have that possibility in January," Amorim told reporters following Monday's defeat to Newcastle.

"You know the situation better than I [do]. It's not the case I am not arriving here and I can spend a lot of money, changing all the team. You know the situation so it's not a point to talk about it."

According to Manchester Evening News, Man United do not have the budget to bolster their squad amid concerns about meeting the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules.

Who could Man United offload in January?

There is a belief that Man United will have to offload players before they can think about making new additions in the January transfer window.

Marcus Rashford is among those who could be moved on despite returning to the matchday squad for Monday's home clash against Newcastle.

The 27-year-old was an unused substitute at Old Trafford, suggesting that a January departure could still be on the horizon.

Earlier in December, Rashford admitted that he is "ready for a new challenge", leading to links with a number of potential suitors, including Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid and Al-Ahli.

In addition to Rashford, Man United could also look to offload Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen, who are all out of contract at the end of the season.

Antony is another player who could be moved on, having failed to start any of Man United's 19 Premier League games this season.

Casemiro has also found playing time hard to come by, having started just one of Man United's last six top-flight matches, making him a potential candidate to leave Old Trafford in the new year.
