Manchester United hope to close a deal for Atalanta BC centre-forward Rasmus Hojlund before the end of the weekend, according to a report.

Manchester United are reportedly hopeful of closing a deal for Atalanta BC centre-forward Rasmus Hojlund before the end of the weekend.

The Red Devils are believed to have now submitted their first bid for the Denmark international, with a €50m (£42.8m) fixed fee plus €10m (£8.6m) in add-ons said to have been offered to Atalanta.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Italian outfit are not expected to accept the current offer, but a compromise might be found for around €70m (£60m) plus bonuses.

Di Marzio claims that Man United are hopeful of being able to secure the centre-forward's signature before the end of the weekend.

Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be in the race for the 20-year-old, with the French outfit actually placing a higher salary on the table, but Hojlund has allegedly made it clear that he only wants to move to Old Trafford during this summer's transfer window.

The Dane scored 10 goals and registered four assists in 34 appearances for Atalanta during the 2022-23 campaign after making the move to Italy from Sturm Graz.

Man United suffered a 2-0 loss to Real Madrid in Houston on Wednesday evening, with the Red Devils finding it difficult in the final third of the field.

After the clash, the English club's head coach Erik ten Hag again reiterated the importance of a new centre-forward arriving at Old Trafford as soon as possible.

The Red Devils have already made two signings this summer, bringing in Mason Mount from Chelsea and Andre Onana from Inter Milan, with the latter debuting against Real Madrid.

"When you play against Real Madrid, you will concede chances because it is a very good team with very good football players," Ten Hag said when addressing Onana's first appearance.

"But, overall, we did quite well and in the moment we conceded chances, he was there. I think everyone has seen, he has made a good debut.

"We have a lot of work to do between him and the defending part. You could see the second goal where we are not closing the back post, it can't be that and a goal will come there and that's things that are the rules we have to follow. It will come quickly that we integrate that into our way of play."

Man United will take on Borussia Dortmund in their final friendly of the tour on Sunday before heading back to Europe for matches against Lens and Athletic Bilbao on August 5 and August 6 respectively.
