Manchester United will not move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes in January, according to a report.

Manchester United will reportedly not make a move for Sporting Lisbon captain Bruno Fernandes when the January transfer window opens for business.

The Red Devils were strongly linked with a swoop for the Portugal international throughout the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur were also credited with an interest, while it was widely reported that Real Madrid had considered a late swoop before the European transfer window closed for business.

The 24-year-old ultimately remained with Sporting beyond the deadline, although the midfielder's future is expected to again be the subject of speculation at the start of 2020.

According to The Sun, however, United will not revive their interest in January as they would rather complete a mid-season swoop for Tottenham's Christian Eriksen.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have struggled for creativity from the number 10 position this season, with Jesse Lingard's form in particular being widely criticised.

The 20-time English champions will be looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they host Leicester City after the international break.
