Manchester United are reportedly still interested in signing Sporting Lisbon captain Bruno Fernandes, who has also been linked with Liverpool.

Manchester United are reportedly still interested in signing Sporting Lisbon captain Bruno Fernandes this summer.

Reports earlier this month claimed that the Red Devils had already begun talks with the midfielder over a potential £50m switch to Old Trafford when the transfer window reopens.

Speculation over a possible deal has since gone quiet, though, while Liverpool are also understood to be in the running for his signature.

However, the Evening Standard claims that United are still weighing up an approach for Fernandes due to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's desire to bring a goalscoring midfielder to the club.

Solskjaer reportedly sees Fernandes as a replacement for Marouane Fellaini, who moved to the Chinese Super League in January, with the 24-year-old having scored 24 goals in 43 appearances this season.

The Portugal international has a release clause of €100m (£85.9m) in his contract at Sporting, but the Primeira Liga outfit are expected to consider offers closer to the £50m mark.
