Sporting Lisbon are willing to negotiate a fee for talented midfielder Bruno Fernandes, with Manchester United believed to be interested.

Sporting Lisbon vice-president Francisco Salgado Zenha has revealed that the club might sell Manchester United target Bruno Fernandes for less than they were originally after.

The Red Devils are believed to have already made contact with the Portuguese midfielder's representatives after scouting him this season.

Fernandes has 11 goals and seven assists from his 22 Primeira Liga outings this term, while also contributing to eight goals in other competitions.

Amid talk that United, among others, are preparing an offer for the 24-year-old, it emerged that he has a €100m (£86m) release clause inserted in his contract.

That sum was enough to put the Premier League side off making a move, but Zenha has offered hope that a cut-price deal could be struck.

"To my knowledge there are no proposals. Are there any interested? Certainly," he told Portuguese TV channel TVI24.

"For €100 million he goes. Any value below, the decision has to be taken together. The way to manage football is not exclusively about money.

"If there is a good proposal, if it makes sense, it might be accepted, but we have no decision made on that."

Portuguese outlet A Bola claims that Sporting must raise £40m by June because of escalating financial problems.
