Manchester United reportedly decided against a summer move for Paris Saint-Germain attacker Neymar due to character concerns.

Manchester United reportedly decided against a summer move for Neymar due to concerns over the Brazilian's character and off-the-field conduct.

The 27-year-old attempted to force a move away from Paris Saint-Germain throughout the summer transfer window with a return to Barcelona widely mooted.

The Spanish champions were ultimately unable to agree a price with Thomas Tuchel's side, however, and the South American - also linked with Real Madrid - reluctantly agreed to remain in Paris.

According to The Athletic, United's financial power meant that they had the opportunity to launch a move for the former Santos youngster, but the English giants had concerns over his character and felt that he would become a distraction in the dressing room.

The report also claims that the Red Devils viewed Neymar's father, who is also his agent, as 'money-obsessed', while the attacker's party lifestyle and perceived lack of dedication raised alarm bells.

United have struggled to fire in the final third of the field this season with both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez allowed to leave over the summer without a replacement being signed.

Anthony Martial could hand Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a huge boost ahead of Sunday's clash with Liverpool, however, as the France international is due back in training this week following a thigh issue.
