Spain boss Vicente del Bosque leaves door open for Juan Mata

Vicente del Bosque insists that Juan Mata can still force his way into the Spain World Cup squad, despite being snubbed for next week's friendly against Italy.

Spain manager Vicente del Bosque has suggested that Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata could still force his way into the World Cup squad.

The 25-year-old was left out of the national side for next Wednesday's friendly against Italy.

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres also failed to earn a place, but Del Bosque has insisted that there is still time for players to stake a claim before this summer's tournament in Brazil.

"There have been players who have not had much continuity but we are not overly concerned right now," BBC Sport quotes Del Bosque as saying. "In the case of Juan, we really like him, we know his potential, but we don't have room for everyone. This is a list only for the match against Italy. It doesn't mean anything for Brazil 2014."

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa has been called into the setup due to his prolific form in La Liga this season.
