Newcastle striker Leon Best wants to prove his worth to Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni.

Newcastle striker Leon Best believes that he is playing well enough to force his way into the Republic of Ireland setup.

The 24-year-old has endured an injury-ravaged spell at St James' Park but is enjoying an extended run in the first team.

Best scored both goals in the 2-1 win over Fulham in his last outing for the club and has now scored eight goals in his last ten league appearances.

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni could consider Best for next month's Euro 2012 qualifiers with Andorra and Armenia.

"I don't know why I haven't been called up," said Best. "I have never really been given a good run, a good chance to prove that I am an international, as well as a Premier League, player.

"But it will all come. If I do well for Newcastle and continue to score and play well and prove that I am a Premier League striker, then I should be given the chance to be an international."

Best joined Newcastle from Coventry in 2010 after scoring 19 goals in 92 appearances for the Sky Blues.
