Giovanni Trapattoni praises performances of Richard Dunne and Shay Given

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni reserves special praise for Richard Dunne and Shay Given after his side's 0-0 draw in Russia.

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has praised Richard Dunne and Shay Given after this evening's 0-0 draw with Russia.

The Aston Villa duo played their part as the visiting Irish frustrated their hosts in Russia, with Given in particular making a string of saves.

After the match, Trapattoni revealed that he was delighted with the result and believes that Ireland can still finish top of their qualifying group.

"I am very, very happy because they were superior - physically also - and had many chances," said Trapattoni.

"Shay Given and Richard Dunne were outstanding but all our defenders played well.

"Russia still have a very difficult game against Slovakia so maybe we can still top the table."

Ireland's remaining fixtures are against Armenia and Andorra.
