Alan Pardew has revealed that he is not looking to add a striker to his Newcastle United squad during the January transfer window.
The Magpies had been close to agreeing a move for Sochaux centre-forward Modibo Maiga, only for the deal to collapse on medical grounds.
Despite losing Demba Ba to the African Cup of Nations next month, Pardew has insisted that he is now not interested in signing a striker.
"I don't think we'll be bringing a striker in in this window after the collapse of Maiga, which we put a lot of work into," he told a press conference.
"I think, as far as we're concerned, we'll go with what we've got.
"You have to pay over the odds in this window, everybody does, and you have to accept that if you're going to invest in this window. But we won't be in terms of a striker."
Pardew's Newcastle travel to Liverpool on Friday evening.
