Newcastle United's Alan Pardew: "We let ourselves down"

Alan Pardew admits that Newcastle United let themselves down on Saturday as the Magpies lost 3-2 to Hull City.

Alan Pardew has admitted that his Newcastle United team let themselves down in the 3-2 defeat to Hull City on Saturday.

Loic Remy twice put Newcastle ahead in the Premier League clash, but a late Sone Aluko goal eventually secured the points for the visitors.

"We started really, really well but then we dropped down a gear after our goal and that caused us problems for the rest of the game. Third gear is not enough in this league against any side," Pardew told BBC Sport.

"You look for consistency and this team is a good team but we lack a bit of consistency and that is what gets you results.

"The Premier League is about momentum and you can fly up the table at this stage of the season. We let ourselves down."

Hull manager Steve Bruce insisted that his side deserved the victory shortly after the final whistle.
