FC Twente chairman Joop Munsterman says that £16m may tempt the club to sell Luuk De Jong.

FC Twente chairman Joop Munsterman has told Newcastle United that Luuk de Jong will be allowed to leave for £16m.

The Magpies have already failed with a bid, believed to be somewhere in the region of £10m, for the 21-year-old.

De Jong has caught Alan Pardew's eye after bagging 25 goals in 24 games in the Eredivisie last season.

However, Munsterman has now backed up Steve McClaren's claim that it would take "stupid money" to land the striker.

"For £12m, De Jong will not leave," said Munsterman. "But £16m would be an incredible amount."

Although he did not feature, De Jong was selected for the Netherlands' Euro 2012 campaign.
