John Aldridge: 'Media agenda against Luis Suarez means he won't win awards'

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge believes that a media agenda against Luis Suarez means that he will not win any personal awards this season.

Liverpool legend John Aldridge believes that Luis Suarez's reputation will count against him when the Player of the Year awards are handed out.

The Reds striker is expected to contest the individual titles with Manchester United forward Robin van Persie and Tottenham Hotspur's Gareth Bale.

However, the Uruguayan has been dogged by controversy at times during the season and Aldridge feels that his reputation will be wrongly taken into account when the winners of the accolades are decided.

"Suarez may land the Golden Boot, but he's got no chance of winning the PFA or FWA Player of the Year awards," Aldridge said in his Liverpool Echo column.

"If it is judged solely on what he's done on the pitch, he would sweep the board, but because of the other stuff that's gone on and the way he's been portrayed by certain sections of the media he won't get the votes."

"Sadly, there's an agenda against him and that will cost him."

Suarez leads the Premier League scoring charts this season after netting 21 times for the Reds.
