FA general secretary Alex Horne says that it is "possible" that goal-line technology could be implemented in the Premier League next season.

The general secretary of the Football Association Alex Horne has revealed that goal-line technology could be introduced in the Premier League next season.

The widely discussed topic has been under review by FIFA, with nine different systems being taken into account via an independent testing authority.

"I think goal-line technology would be a huge boost for the game," Horne told BBC Sport. "For years we've thought this was a good addition to referees' armoury.

"It's possible we could see [goal-line technology] in the Premier League as early as 2012-13.

"It's easy to make mistakes and we've all seen examples where the referee and assistant referee can't see if a ball has crossed the line or not. We need to support them in decision-making."

The world governing body were initially opposed to the idea of such technology. However, an over-the-line disallowed goal by Frank Lampard against Germany during England's World Cup campaign brought the issue back into the spotlight.

A final decision regarding the instalment of goal-line assistance is expected to be made in July next year.
