Harry Redknapp believes that the FA's appeal against Wayne Rooney's Euro 2012 was hypocritical.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has questioned the FA's decision to appeal Wayne Rooney's Euro 2012 ban.

Rooney, 26, was originally given a three-match ban after kicking out at Montenegro's Miodrag Dzudovic during the qualifying match in October, but UEFA reduced this to two following the FA's appeal.

However, Redknapp believes that the FA have been hypocritical in the way they have dealt with the situation.

"In all honesty it was a three-match ban for violent conduct. You can look at it and say it wasn't that violent, but it doesn't matter. If you cuff someone, you get a three-match ban. Those are the rules," said Redknapp.

"If you appealed it [domestically], it would be a frivolous appeal and you would probably get four games if you went to the FA."

Rooney will miss England's games against France and Sweden at Euro 2012, but will be eligible to play against the hosts Ukraine on June 18.
