Report: Aleksander Ceferin to be named UEFA president

Aleksander Ceferin will replace Michel Platini as UEFA president after receiving 48 pledges of support from the 55 member nations, a report claims.

The head of the Slovenian Football Association, Aleksander Ceferin, is reportedly close to being named as UEFA's new president.

BBC Sport reports that Ceferin, who put his name forward to replace banned former leader Michel Platini earlier this year, has nearly 40 pledges of support from the 55 member nations.

A majority of 28 votes is needed to win the election between Ceferin and Dutchman Michael van Praag, which is currently taking place in Athens.

The victor will take over from Platini - banned from football for four years due to the acceptance of illegal payments - until 2019.
