Sepp Blatter backs FIFA official integrity checks

Outgoing FIFA president Sepp Blatter backs proposals for the world football governing body's officials to pass integrity checks.

Outgoing FIFA president Sepp Blatter has backed a proposal for the organisation's officials to pass integrity checks.

The world football governing body's Executive Committee will discuss the proposal, put forward by Germany's Wolfgang Niersbach, in Zurich on July 20, when it will also set the date of the new presidential election.

Blatter, who passed an integrity test in February, is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "Confederations are meant to screen officials but a new system would likely see FIFA's ethics chairmen assessing them more rigorously."

On June 2, only four days after being elected for a fifth presidential term, Blatter announced plans to step down amid investigations into alleged corruption involving some FIFA officials.
