Clint Hill jumps to defence of Joey Barton after the QPR midfielder responded to abuse from the fans.

Queens Park Rangers defender Clint Hill has praised Joey Barton's 'brave' rallying cry after responding to abuse from the Loftus Road fans.

Barton wrote in his programme notes before the 2-1 win over Arsenal that he did not 'feel at one' with the supporters and that criticism had started to 'seep in' and his teammate Hill has defended his response.

Hill said: "Joey was brave to come out and say what he said in his programme notes, but it has had the desired effect.

"The fans have been a little bit despondent with some of our performances and results, but there is a unity about us right now.

"It was a bit of a rallying cry if you like. It worked wonders against Arsenal and hopefully it will do the business against Swansea too."

QPR face Swansea City at Loftus Road on Wednesday and sit one place above the relegation zone in 17th with goal difference separating them from Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic.
