Joey Barton is handed the captaincy ahead of his Queens Park Rangers debut against former employers Newcastle United.

Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock has opted to hand the club captaincy to Joey Barton as he prepares to make his debut against former club Newcastle United tonight.

Barton will be joined by Shaun Wright-Phillips, Anton Ferdinand, Luke Young and Armand Traore in making their first appearances for the R's.

For the visiting Magpies, Gabriel Obertan will start on the left wing, while Leon Best and Shola Ameobi form the striking partnership for the trip to Loftus Road.

QPR: Kenny; Young, Ferdinand, Gabbidon. Traore; Wright-Phillips, Faurlin, Derry, Barton, Taarabt; Boothroyd.

Newcastle: Krul; Simpson, S.Taylor, Coloccini, R.Taylor; Obertan, Cabaye, Tiote, Gutierrez; Best, Ameobi.
