Today's 0-0 draw between Reading and Queens Park Rangers has relegated both clubs to the Championship.
The result has left the two teams locked on 25 points, meaning that they could both manage a maximum of 34 points if they were to win their remaining three fixtures.
While that is the same number of points that Aston Villa currently find themselves on, they still have to play Wigan Athletic, who currently occupy 18th spot. As a result, at least one of those teams are guaranteed to end the campaign on more than 34 points - which is the reason behind the duo's demotion.
Reading were only promoted to the Premier League last season, while Harry Redknapp's QPR spent two campaigns in the top flight.
