Former Rangers director Paul Murray is reportedly finalising a deal for the football club.

The Scottish champions are looking for new backers following their move into administration last month.

The Blue Knights consortium includes two supporters groups and, most surprisingly, Ticketus.

The company played a key part in current owner Craig Whyte's takeover at Ibrox in May.

"I believe that the Blue Knights, working in collaboration with the fans and Ticketus, are able to deliver an attractive solution that will see the club emerge from administration with a clear plan for the future that will bring the financial stability that the club needs," said Murray.

"As the administrators have stated, the alternative route of putting the club into liquidation is much less attractive for creditors, supporters and players, with its capacity to destroy value.

"Under current UEFA rules, a football club is banned from European competition for three years in the event of liquidation. Taking this route would have a significant impact on Rangers' future revenues and the overall financial viability of the club, so it is something we want to avoid."

Sale Sharks owner Brian Kennedy is another name who is thought to be interested in the Gers.

Administrators have given interested parties until Friday, March 18 to put in their offers for the club.

Players and senior management agreed to take wage cuts on Friday night in order to keep non-playing redundancies "at a minimum".
