Preview: Cowdenbeath vs. Rangers

Sports Mole previews Rangers' Scottish Championship trip to Cowdenbeath as the Ibrox club look to put another eventful week at boardroom level behind them.

Rangers will hope to put another tumultuous week at boardroom level behind them when they visit Cowdenbeath in the Scottish Championship on Saturday.

The battle for Ibrox supremacy does at last seem to be nearing a conclusion, with Dave King claiming to have won control of the club ahead of Friday's EGM.

The South Africa-based businessman has announced that he has earned the necessary votes to oust the current board, and indeed David Somers left his position as chairman on Monday.

However, remaining board members Derek Llambias and Barry Leach, associates of Newcastle United owner and Rangers shareholder Mike Ashley, are reportedly refusing to leave their posts.

Ashley was this week fined £7,500 for breaching the dual-ownership rules of the Scottish Football Association, which is looking into whether King is a fit and proper person following as many as 41 tax convictions in South Africa.

Rangers will appoint Paul Murray, former leader of the Blue Knights group interested in buying the club, as chairman in the meantime.

Amid of all of this chaos, caretaker manager Kenny McDowall could be forgiven for admitting publicly that he is not enjoying his role.

It would help if things were at least going swimmingly on the pitch, but the Gers have fallen four points behind second-placed Hibernian in the table and have only won one of their last three matches.

McDowall could name a similar side to the one which drew 1-1 at Falkirk last Friday, with goalscorer Darren McGregor continuing to deputise for injured captain Lee McCulloch in defence and Kris Boyd leading the line.

Cowdenbeath may have had a pretty difficult week themselves in the aftermath of their 10-0 humiliation at the hands of runaway leaders Hearts.

The result kept them in the relegation playoff spot and left their goal difference at an irrecoverable -45, which could turn out to be important in their battle against the drop.

Manager Jimmy Nicholl will be forced into at least one change, with Lewis Toshney suspended, and is likely to make a few more.

Kyle Miller, Lewis Milne and Kudus Oyenuga could all return at the expense of John Herron, Declan Hughes and Chris Kane as Cowdenbeath seek a first win over the Glasgow giants in 85 years.

Cowdenbeath:

Form in Scottish Championship: DLLWLL

Possible starting lineup: Thomson; Adamson, O'Brien, Armstrong, Brett; Wedderburn, Robertson, Milne, Miller; Nish, Oyenuga

Rangers:

Form in Scottish Championship: LWWLWD
Form in all competitions: WLLLWD

Possible starting lineup: Robinson; Faure, McGregor, Mohsni, Wallace, Murdoch, Hutton, Clark, Vuckic, Law, Boyd

Sports Mole says: 0-2
