Keylor Navas determined to remain first choice at Real Madrid

Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas says that he will not go down without a fight if a new stopper is brought in this summer.

Keylor Navas has revealed that he will "battle to the death" to ensure that he remains first-choice keeper at Real Madrid next season.

Los Blancos have been constantly linked with David de Gea and Thibaut Courtois this summer, while Gianluigi Donnarumma is also understood to be on their radar.

Navas kept just five clean sheets in 27 La Liga appearances for Madrid last term and one in 12 Champions League outings, leading to suggestions that boss Zinedine Zidane is keen to bring in a big-money replacement.

The Costa Rica international insists that he is not concerned about being usurped at the Bernabeu, however, and will certainly not go down without a fight should a new goalkeeper be recruited.

"I am very relaxed, that is the truth," he is quoted as saying by ESPN. "I just focus on what I can do myself, which is work hard and try to compete with the teammates I have.

"I just think about working and winning trophies, trying to enjoy the day to day. I will always want to play, of course. So I will battle to the death against whoever it is, in a fair fight. And I never ask for any gifts, as I never need them either. Whoever I am up against I will give everything, like always."

Navas will play no part in Costa Rica's upcoming Gold Cup campaign in the United States, instead agreeing to join up with Madrid for pre-season training elsewhere in the country.
