Real Madrid will allegedly not offer Luka Modric a new contract at the club, with the midfielder set to depart on a free transfer next year.

Real Madrid will reportedly not offer Luka Modric a new contract at the club, with the experienced midfielder set to leave Bernabeu on a free transfer when his deal expires next June.

The Croatia international was linked with a move away from Los Blancos earlier this year, but he ultimately penned a new one-year deal to take him until the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

Modric has again been a regular for Carlo Ancelotti's side, featuring on 18 occasions in all competitions, contributing two assists, but he has dropped down the pecking order when it comes to the midfield spots.

Toni Kroos, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni are all ahead of Modric in terms of the three midfield positions behind the number 10 Jude Bellingham.

Modric has recently been in the first XI due to injuries for Camavinga and Tchouameni, but the latter is now back in training, while the former is set to return in early 2024.

According to Sport, Real Madrid will not be offering the Croatian a new deal, meaning that his long association with the club will come to an end in June 2024.

The report claims that Modric had doubts over signing a new deal last summer, but he turned down a huge contract offer from Saudi Arabia in order to continue at Bernabeu.

There have been suggestions that the midfielder could leave in January, with a number of Saudi Arabian clubs keen to discuss a move, but he is expected to stay until the end of the campaign.

The 38-year-old is set to represent his country at Euro 2024, and it is understood that he has no plans to retire, believing that he is capable of playing into his 40s.

Modric made the move to Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2012, and he has represented the capital side on 506 occasions, scoring 37 goals and registering 79 assists in the process.

The midfielder has won three La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey crowns and five Champions League trophies during a successful period in the Spanish capital.

Real Madrid will again seemingly challenge for La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League this term, and Modric will be determined to end his time at the club on a high.

Kroos also only has a deal at Bernabeu until next June, but the 33-year-old could be offered the chance to sign another extension.

Meanwhile, Lucas Vazquez and Nacho only have deals until next summer, and both have been linked with moves away in search of regular action in the latter stages of their career.
