Notts County beaten at home by Port Vale

Port Vale are beaten 2-0 at home by Notts County after goals from Gary Jones and Liam Noble.

Port Vale were beaten 2-0 at home by Notts County in League One on Saturday after goals from Gary Jones and Liam Noble.

The Magpies were under pressure in the opening moments of the game but it took them just 10 minutes to open the scoring when Gary Jones unleashed a deflected volley from 20 yards out past the stranded Sam Johnson.

The goal took the edge off what was an impressive opening 10 minutes to the game as Notts County looked happy to hang on to their slender lead.

County were looking more and more likely to get the second goal of the game when Shaun Harrad set up the increasingly dangerous Zeli Ismail, whose low shot from 20 yards was kept out.

Ismail frustrated the home side and after he was fouled, Liam Noble slotted home the free kick which took a wicked deflection to nestle in the bottom corner.

Notts County now sit in 10th with seven points while Port Vale are two points behind in 16th.
